The India vs. Pakistan matches have reduced over the last few years because of the political tensions between the two countries. Earlier, the two nations would play bilateral series against each other, and even the Pakistani players participated in the IPL. However, that thing has changed now, and it is rare to see India vs. Pakistan matches. Watching India and Pakistan players play for the same team is quite rare as well, but Mohammad Rizwan and Cheteshwar Pujara will play together this year.
Many fans would have known by now that Pujara has signed a deal with England county named Sussex for the upcoming county season. Pujara went unsold at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction and has lost his place in the Indian Test squad.
So with an England tour coming up later this year, the veteran right-handed batter can revive his Test career by playing well in county cricket. He will share the dressing room with the likes of Mohammad Rizwan and Josh Philippe.
Sussex Cricket announced on Twitter that they have roped in Pujara as a replacement for Travis Head:
“Pujara will replace Travis Head as one of our overseas players for 2022. Travis requested to be released from his contract due to increased international commitments along with the news that he and his partner are expecting their first child.”
All eyes will be on Cheteshwar Pujara during the 2022 county season
Cheteshwar Pujara will be keen to make the most out of the chances he has received. Rizwan and Philippe will be available on alternate basis. Here’s what Sussex Cricket added:
“To ensure that we have the strongest squad available for matches that Mohammad Rizwan will miss due to the re-arrangement of the Pakistan v West Indies One Day Series for early June, Josh Philippe will join the squad.“
