In a recent interview with Aaj Tak, Mohammed Shami responded emphatically to Pakistani trolls attempting to give a religious angle to one of his bowling spells. After a remarkable five-wicket haul, Shami addressed claims that he refrained from performing Sajda (bowing down in prayer) due to fear of backlash.
Asserting his pride as an Indian and a Muslim, Shami stated, “Nobody can stop me from following my religion. I am a proud Indian and a proud Muslim. I don’t have to seek someone’s permission to do Sajda. Why would I live in India if I am not allowed to follow my religion? If I want to do Sajda, I will do it everywhere.”
Addressing the specific match, he clarified, “I haven’t done it before in my career. Why would I be interested in doing Sajda in that particular match? I was tired and set on the pitch. I had bowled more than my limit.”
Shami dismissed such controversies, emphasizing, “These people will try to find out something or the other to get content. They are not good for anyone.” Notably, he achieved a notable feat of taking 24 wickets in the ICC World Cup 2023, though Team India faced a heart-breaking defeat in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final vs Australia as India’s wait for an ICC Trophy extended on the 19th November.
