Shubman Gill is probably one of the biggest names that is likely to rule the game in the coming years. He has been pretty consistent in the last year or so and is the highest run scorer in 2023 across formats. Gill is also the only player to score a hundred in all three formats in 2023.
Although most of his runs came in the ODI format, he has played some good knocks in the other formats as well. Gill has scored 1584 runs in 29 innings at an average of 63.36, with five hundred and nine half-centuries. Overall, he has scored 2154 runs in 52 innings, with seven hundred and 10 half-centuries.
That is the reason that the former English captain, Naseer Hussain, reckons that Gill has everything to go on to become the legend of the game in the coming years. He also named Kiwi all-rounder Rachin Ravindra along with Gill. Just like Gill, Rachin also had a stellar performance, especially in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
He scored 578 runs in 10 innings at an average and strike rate of 64.22 and 106.44, respectively. Rachin also scored three hundred and two half-centuries. In a video released by the ICC, Naseer Hussain picked two youngsters who would be among the best in the coming years.
The former English captain said, “I am going with Shubman Gill. I think he had a stellar three-quarters of 2023. He is a super talent and destined to be next sensation for India. And then it was Ravindra who lit up the World Cup 2023 in India.”
Both of these youngsters had incredible performances in the passing year. However, only time will tell whether Naseer’s prediction will be correct. Although both have shown great potential at the start of their careers and have become an important part of their teams across formats.
