The first semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is all set to be played on November 15 (Wednesday) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The host, India, will take on New Zealand in the all-important game. These two teams also met in the semis of the 2019 edition in England.

That game went into reserve day after the rain on the scheduled day in Manchester, and eventually it was New Zealand that came out victorious by the barest of margins. However, to get the result of the upcoming knockout games, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced a specific Super Over rule.

As per the rule, all three knockout games will have an additional reserve day in case of rain or any unforeseen weather conditions. If the game can’t be done on the scheduled day, it will restart from the same point the next day to get a result.

Some changes have been made to the Super Over rule as well. If both teams end with the same score, then there will be a super over to get the result. But if the scores of both teams in the super over are also tied, both teams will continue to play indefinitely until the result is decided.

However, in case of rain or unforeseen weather conditions, if the super over can’t be completed in the semi-final even on reserve day, then the team that finishes higher on the points table will be declared the winner.

India finished at the top, while New Zealand finished in fourth place during the group stage. If the first semi-final ends without a result, then India will qualify for the final. Meanwhile, the same rule is applicable for the final as well, but if there is no result in the final match, both teams will be declared joint winners.
