Nitish Rana posted a four-word tweet after the Indian selectors did not pick him in the team for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the South African cricket team. The selectors handed Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh their maiden T20I call-ups whilst retaining Venkatesh Iyer in the squad despite his ordinary IPL season.

Many fans would remember that Rana was a part of the Indian squad that played in the away series against the Sri Lankan cricket team team last year. He could not impress much in that series, but the left-handed batter had a good run in the Indian Premier League after that tour.

It seemed like he would receive another chance to play for the Indian cricket team because the main players were unavailable for the home series against the South African cricket team. However, Rana was not selected. Here’s what he tweeted after his non-selection:

Speaking about his performance in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, Nitish Rana has scored 361 runs in 14 innings for the Kolkata Knight Riders. His batting average was 27.77, while his strike rate was 143.82, his highest since IPL 2019.

Nitish Rana was not the only player from the Sri Lanka tour who was ignored for the South Africa T20I series

A second-string Indian squad traveled to Sri Lanka last year to face off against the islanders in three T20I matches and three ODI matches. Rana was a part of that squad along with the likes of Chetan Sakariya, Devdutt Padikkal, Shikhar Dhawan, Sanju Samson, Krunal Pandya and others.

Most of the players from those squads are missing in the Indian squad for the South Africa T20I series. It will be interesting to see if they can make a comeback for the series against Ireland.
