"No common sense, Rubbish batting"- Former Indian skipper lashes out at India after losing to Australia in CWG 2022 Final

On Sunday, India’s women lost the final match of the women’s competition at the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Edgbaston. With this loss, the chance of winning the gold medal in the cricket competition was shattered. Australia set a target of 162 runs for India to chase in the final of CWG 2022. India lost their two in-form openers early in the first five overs. But after that, a 96-run partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur put India in the driving seat.

But in the end, the Women in Yellow held their nerves to clinch a historic win. The Indian women ended up losing by nine runs and were settled with a silver medal. After the loss, many fans were disappointed with the way India’s middle order batted. Former Indian skipper, Mohammed Azharuddin, was very unhappy and slammed the batting approach of India.

Skipper Kaur scored a 34-ball half-century and made 65 off 43 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Rodrigues supported her very well and made 33 off 33 balls with three boundaries. India were at 118/2 at one point, but after that they lost their eight wickets for just 34 runs.

Both teams met earlier in the group stage as well, and it was Australia who won that game. The Men in Yellow ended the tournament undefeated while India faced two losses, both at the hands of Australia. However, this loss didn’t go well with many. Azharuddin tweeted, “Rubbish batting by the Indian team. No common sense. Gave away a winning game on a platter.”

Earlier, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. Despite losing the early wicket of Alyssa Healy (7), they had a 74-run partnership for the second wicket. Skipper Meg Lanning made 36 runs off 26 balls, with 5 fours and one six. But the star of the match was Beth Mooney, who made her fourth fifty against India in T20I.

She made 61 runs off 41 balls with 8 fours. For India, Sneh Rana and Renuka Singh took two wickets each. Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav ended with one wicket apiece.
