“Only He can break my both Test records”- Brian Lara names an Indian star who can break his 400 and 501-run record

Brain Lara is one of the legends of the game. There are some records by Lara that are impossible to break. One of his biggest records is the 400 not out in test cricket, and Lara has also scored 501 not out at the first-class level.

In the 150-plus history of Test cricket, there is no cricket apart from Lara, who has reached this landmark. Many big players have come but none of them has come close to him. However, the Caribbean legend picks one player who can break his record of 400* and 501*.

In an interview with Anandabazar Patrika, Lara names the Indian superstar who can break his all-time record. The 54-year-old picks Shubman Gill to be the one who can go on to break his record. Notably, Gill is the highest run scorer in 2023 across formats.

Lara said, “Shubman Gill can break both my records. Gill is the most talented batter in this new generation. He will rule cricket in the coming years. I believe he will go on to break many big records. Gill can do it (break my records).”

The West Indian legend lauded the 24-year-old and said that he has scored a double hundred in ODIs, played a number of match-winning knocks in the IPL, and will be the next superstar. Gill had scored 2118 runs in 2023, including seven centuries and 10 half-centuries.

He scored a total of 354 runs in nine innings at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 106.94. He scored 4 half-centuries with a best of 92. Gill was rested in the five-match T20I series against Australia at home.

He will be back in action in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa starting on December 10. He is also part of the two-match test series starting on December 26. With the T20 World Cup 2024 coming up, the Indian opener will be a very important member of the team.
