Former Indian cricket team opener Virender Sehwag recently gave his opinion on how the Royal Challengers Bangalore team has changed in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Sehwag said that until last year, RCB was over-reliant on two players – Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. However, this year the trend has changed.

The likes of Dinesh Karthik, Wanindu Hasaranga, Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis and Josh Hazlewood have stepped up and delivered the goods for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Also, Sehwag pointed out how Faf du Plessis and Sanjay Bangar have backed the players. He said that Virat Kohli would drop the players after two or three poor performances, but the current captain and coach do not have the same ideology.

Speaking on Cricbuzz Live ahead of RCB’s Eliminator match against the Lucknow Super Giants, Virender Sehwag spoke about their improvement and said:

“Opposition’s chances of winning increased by 90 percent because until last year they knew they had to stop just two players. But this time there are almost four players and I am not even considering the bowling. The likes of Dinesh Karthik, Maxwell and others have won a game for each of them.”

Virender Sehwag feels 2022 is the year of Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore have been a part of the Indian Premier League since the tournament’s inception, but they have not won the title even once. They have qualified for the playoffs eight times and made it to the finals thrice, but lost in all of them.

Looking at the squad’s strengths and weaknesses in IPL 2022, Sehwag thinks that 2022 is the year of the Bangalore-based franchise. It will be interesting to see if they can end their title drought this week. The IPL 2022 playoffs will start tonight with GT and RR facing off in Kolkata.
