The final of the Asia Cup 2023 between India and Sri Lanka, which was played in Colombo, saw a one-sided thrashing of the hosts. Team India took just 21 overs and a few balls to win their 8th Asia Cup title.
It was all done and dusted with a blink of an eye when the Indian bowlers were bowling. Mohammed Siraj bowled a dream spell where he took the joint-fastest fifer in ODI history. Siraj took just 16 balls to take five wickets up front. He ended up with 6/21, which is now his career-best figure.
With this, he also completed 50 ODI wickets in his ODI career and became the fourth-fastest Indian to do so. Hardik Pandya also chipped in with 3/3. As a result, Sri Lanka were bundled out for their lowest ODI total against India. The whole team got all out for 50 runs in 15.2 overs.
Only two batters went past the 10-run mark. The second inning was just a formality, as Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan completed the chase in just 6.1 overs. India registered a massive win by 10 wickets with 263 balls to spare. It was India’s biggest win in terms of balls remaining.
Gill remained unbeaten on 27 off 19, while Ishan Kishan scored an 18-ball 23. After this clinical performance, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan took a dig at the Pakistan cricket team, which finished in fourth place in the Super Four.

Irfan tweeted, “Padosi abhi bhi Awaz Karne ki Koshish Kar rahe hai, Lekin Colombo tak unki awaz pahoch nahi Rahi hai.” This was India’s 8th title, and Rohit Sharma has now won two titles as captain. He also led India to win the 2018 Asia Cup. Siraj was named Man of the Match for his brilliant spell, while Kuldeep Yadav won the Man of the Series award.
