Just before their crucial clash with Australia in Bengaluru, the Pakistan cricket team faced a setback when a viral fever swept through their ranks. The highly anticipated match, set for this Friday, carries immense significance for both teams as they aim to advance in the tournament. While several Pakistani players fell ill in recent days, most have now fully recovered, as confirmed by the official statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Pakistan has secured two victories and suffered one defeat so far, while Australia managed to secure their first win against Sri Lanka after facing losses against India and South Africa. Pakistan, too, encountered a setback in their last match against their arch-rivals, India.
Ahsan Iftikhar Nagi, the media manager of the PCB, announced on Tuesday that a majority of the Pakistani players who fell ill upon their arrival in Bengaluru have now recuperated. Nevertheless, a few players are still under close medical supervision.
The Pakistan team arrived in Bengaluru on Sunday following their seven-wicket loss to arch-rivals India in Ahmedabad the previous day.
In recent months, Bengaluru, often referred to as the Garden City, has seen a rise in cases of viral fever. It’s possible that the change in climate contributed to minor health issues for the visiting team members.
“Some players developed a fever in the past few days, and most of them have made a full recovery. Those in the recovery phase continue to be closely monitored by the team’s medical staff,” Ahsan informed PTI on Tuesday.
He further assured that the team’s captain and star batsman, Babar Azam, along with the leading fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi, are in good health. The team conducted their training session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.
