In the 2023 World Cup showdown between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on October 10, Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, faced disappointment as he couldn’t make a significant contribution with the bat.
Babar Azam, the right-hand batsman, was dismissed after scoring just 10 runs from 15 deliveries, including a lone boundary. His departure came when he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Sadeera Samarawickrama in the eighth over of Pakistan’s run chase.
The bowler, Dilshan Madhushanka, sent down a fuller-length delivery that swung towards the leg side. Azam attempted to flick the ball fine, but he only managed to get a faint edge. Samarawickrama smoothly moved to his left to complete the straightforward catch.
This wasn’t the first time Azam had fallen cheaply in the tournament. He previously scored just five runs in the 2023 World Cup opener for Pakistan against the Netherlands.
Interestingly, Babar Azam had recently showcased his prowess by scoring 80 and 90 runs in warmup matches against New Zealand and Australia, respectively.
