Team India will begin their tournament with a game against Australia in Chennai on October 9. With not much time left before the tournament starts, the predictions have started. A number of former cricketers are predicting the best teams and players.

The Indian management is trying hard to make sure that all the key players can stay fit and be available for selection. That is the reason Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have made it into the Asia Cup 2023 squad. Former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla has picked his preferred squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.

India hasn’t won any major tournaments since 2013. That was the last time MS Dhoni led India to the Champions Trophy. But it has been more than a decade since India won an ICC title. But at home, this will be a great chance for India to end this trophy drought.

In a discussion on Star Sports, Chawla revealed the squad of his preference. Surprisingly, he didn’t include the star batter Shreyas Iyer in the squad. Notably, India has been struggling with the middle-order batter, and Iyer has been consistent among others at No. 4. He has scored 805 runs in 20 ODIs at 47.35 at No. 4.

Iyer is making his comeback after an injury and will be seen in action in the Asia Cup. Instead, Chawla picked up Tilak Varma in the middle order. He has also added Suryakumar Yadav to the squad. Moreover, Chawla has ignored Sanju Samson and picked Rahul and Ishan Kishan as wicket-keeping options.

He has added Yuzi Chahal to the team along with Kuldeep Yadav. Notably, Chahal is not in the Asia Cup squad. In the pace bowling department, he has added Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami, along with Shardul Thakur as bowling all-rounder.
