As per a few reports, mega-auctions may not happen in the future. It is extremely hard to find captaincy options in the small auctions. Hence, all teams might have to rely on options available within their squad for the purpose. On that note, here, we predict the captains of each IPL Team after 5 seasons if there is no mega-auction henceforth.

Chennai Super Kings – Ruturaj Gaikwad

It will be interesting to see who takes over the reins at CSK after MS Dhoni. While Ruturaj Gaikwad might be the immediate choice, CSK could also opt for an experienced name during the transition phase. Therefore, after half a decade, Rutu might be the skipper of CSK.

    Gujarat Titans – Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is likely to be one of the IPL captains if there is no mega-auction in the future. Although Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan are available, considering the stature of Gill by then, he would be a firm contender for this role.

    Delhi Capitals – Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant’s stature is immense and it is unlikely that he will be asked to step down in the next few years. Unless Prithvi Shaw returns to solid form and Pant is not doing well, the Indian wicket-keeper could still be the choice for DC.

    Mumbai Indians – Jasprit Bumrah

Suryakumar Yadav is also a choice but the age might not be on his side. Hence, Bumrah could be the captain of MI in five seasons. He could be leading the squad in the transition era before handing over the reigns to Tilak Varma or Ishan Kishan.

Kolkata Knight Riders – Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer is also likely to be one of the IPL captains if there is no mega-auction in the future. Iyer will come back to lead KKR in IPL 2024. He has the age to lead them for a few years. Rinku Singh might also be an option if KKR does not do well under Shreyas.

    Punjab Kings – Jitesh Sharma

In fact, PBKS must take a risk and ask Jitesh Sharma to lead the side from IPL 2024. The team is anyways not reaching the playoffs and with this bold move, at least they give themselves the chance of a promising future.

Lucknow Super Giants – Ayush Badoni

Honestly, LSG do not have many options. It is hard to imagine KL Rahul captaining a side after five years unless he wins a few trophies in the next seasons. Amongst the choices, Badoni is the closest fit.

    Rajasthan Royals – Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal is also likely to be one of the IPL captains if there is no mega-auction in the future. The Mumbai cricketer has been in stunning form so far. Sanju Samson might still be retained but it won’t be a surprise if at the age of 26, Yashasvi is the skipper of the team.

Royal Challengers Bangalore – Rajat Patidar

At the moment, RCB does not have a lot of options in this regard. Rajat Patidar is the best Indian batter in the team after Virat Kohli. He also looks most likely to take the armband if there is no mega-auction in the future.

    Sunrisers Hyderabad – Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma would be a top option for SRH in the future. In fact, SRH must start grooming him now. This decision could benefit them in future tournaments.
