“He is not Wasim Akram”- Ravi Shastri tears apart Shaheen Afridi; asks everyone not to hype him too much

The high-voltage contest between India and Pakistan didn’t have a great ending as India thrashed Pakistan in all three departments. Team India registered a 7-wicket win with around 20 overs to spare. The Indian bowlers had a brilliant game on the pitch that had more for the batters.

Then the Indian batting, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, hit all the Pakistani bowlers to all parts of the ground. It was a horrible day for Pakistan with the bat and the ball, and the result indicates the same. Everything fell in India’s favor, even the toss.

Rohit put Pakistan to bat first. Though the Men in Green had a great start to their innings, they were 155/2 at one stage and then lost their last eight wickets for just 36 runs. As a result, Pakistan got all out for just 191 runs in 42.5 overs.

It was a horrible collapse for Pakistan, with some incredible bowling from the hosts. However, it was a small target, but Pakistan had some big names in their bowling department that could have made the match out of it. But none of them could deliver; even Shaheen Afridi was welcomed with a boundary in the very first ball of the chase by Rohit.

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri slammed Shaheen and said he is not Wasim Akram at the commentary box during the game. Notably, before the tournament, there was hype that Shaheen would be the bowler to watch out for, but he hasn’t lived up to the expectations so far.

Shastri said, “Shaheen is not Wasim Akram. He is a good bowler. But there is no need for us to hype him so highly. If a player is simply a good player, we should restrict our praise to saying he is a good player. He’s not a great player; we need to admit that.”

Shaheen has just taken four wickets in three games so far. He has leaked runs at almost 7 runs per over, which has been a concerning sign for Pakistan. Because in the absence of Naseem Shah, Afridi has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders.
