The Asian Games 2023 began a few days ago in the Republic of China. This tournament will see a total of 40 different sports and 61 disciplines. Cricket is back at the Asian Games since 2014, and India has sent both men’s and women’s cricket teams for the very first time.
The women’s competition is underway and started on September 19. India’s and Sri Lanka’s women’s teams are playing in the final. Once the women’s cricket competition is concluded, the men’s competition will start on September 27. That will have a total of 17 games, including the final on October 7.
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh will directly play in the quarterfinals on the basis of the rankings. Meanwhile, all the matches that have been played in women’s competition and will be played in men’s tournaments will take place at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field.
Notably, this stadium is the biggest in China and has a seating capacity of 12,000 people. The shape of this ground is not like a traditional cricket venue, and it has a shorter boundary on one side of the ground. That is why, when this stadium was selected to host cricket matches in the Asian Games 2023, fans were very surprised after looking at its dimensions.

On the other hand, former Indian star S. Badrinath has also shared a picture of the venue and taken a jibe at it. He shared the picture at Twitter (now X) and wrote, “If this is the cricket ground for Asian games I am suddenly making myself available @ 43 🙋🏻♂️ :RIP Bowlers 😀.”
Notably, with shorter boundaries, bowlers will find it hard to contain the batters. India has picked some of the biggest hitters in the game. It is expected to be a high-scoring tournament. The men’s tournament will have 13 teams participating in it.
