“Seeing my hardwork…” – Rinku Singh opens up on his first ever Team India call-up for the Ireland T20I series after successful IPL with KKR

Rinku Singh has earned his maiden spot in the Indian team squad for the upcoming three-match series against Ireland, scheduled from August 18 to 23. Rinku is among several fresh faces included in the squad for this series.

Rinku Singh’s standout performance during IPL 2023 with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played a pivotal role in securing his opportunity to represent India. Jasprit Bumrah, making his international comeback, will captain the 15-member squad. Alongside Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma is another new face who has been included.

In a recent update, the BCCI released a video chronicling Rinku and Jitesh’s journey from India to Ireland. The video featured an enjoyable interview session where Jitesh engaged with Rinku, who shared his enthusiasm about his first-ever call-up to the national team.

When enquired about his debut tour with the Indian team, Rinku Singh expressed, “It’s a wonderful feeling. Every cricketer aspires to don the Indian jersey. Upon entering my room and seeing the Team India jersey adorned with the number 35, I was filled with immense joy and a wave of emotions.”

He went on to elaborate, stating, “Witnessing the fruition of all the effort I’ve put in is an incredibly gratifying experience for me.”

Rinku then delved into the recollection of the instant he received the news about his inclusion in the Indian squad for the Ireland tour.

“I was at my practice session in Noida, accompanied by a few close friends. The moment I got the news of my selection, a surge of happiness overtook me, and I immediately dialed my mother. Her unwavering support and encouragement were the driving forces that urged me to strive for a place in the Indian team,” Rinku said.

Rinku Singh’s absence from the recently concluded T20I series against West Indies raised eyebrows and left numerous individuals astonished. Several ex-Indian cricketers shared the sentiment that Rinku should have been part of the West Indies series as well, which India eventually lost 3-2.

During IPL 2023, the left-handed batsman stood out as the top scorer for KKR, amassing 474 runs across 16 matches, maintaining an impressive average of 59.25.

His performance was marked by an impressive tally of four fifty-plus scores. Moreover, Rinku etched his name in the record books by achieving the remarkable feat of hitting five consecutive sixes in the IPL, a feat never before witnessed in the tournament’s history.
