The high-voltage clash of the Super Four between India and Pakistan is all set to begin in just an hour. Two teams filled with some of the biggest superstars in the game will be up against each other. Both teams played a game in the group stage, which was washed out by the rain.
Though the threat of rain is still on, the Asian Cricket Council has granted a reserve day for the IND-PAK Super Four clash. But the fans from across the border want no rain interruption and for both teams to produce yet another thriller.
Rohit Sharma will be in action against the Shaheen Afridi-led pace attack that troubled him last time. The Indian captain will look to perform this time around. Meanwhile, Rohit is also on the verge of a massive record in the coming game on Sunday.
The Indian captain needs 78 more runs to complete 10,000 runs in the one-day internationals. He has scored 9922 runs in 239 innings at a batting average of 48.88 and a strike rate of 90.09. Rohit has also scored 30 centuries and 49 half-centuries, including three double centuries.
If Rohit can score those 78 runs in the coming game, then he can become the second-fastest to achieve this feat. Virat Kohli is the fastest, having done it in some 205 innings, while Sachin Tendulkar is second with 259 innings. Rohit still has 19 innings to break Sachin’s record.
But he will look to achieve this on Sunday against Pakistan. Rohit will also become the sixth Indian with 10,000 runs. On the other hand, Virat also needs 98 runs to complete 13,000 ODI runs and become the fastest to do so. Notably, Virat has scored three centuries at this venue in Colombo in the last three innings he has played. So can we see big scores from Virat and Rohit? Only time will tell.
