The 24-year-old suffered a car accident in December 2022 while traveling back to his hometown of Roorkee from Delhi. Luckily, he survived, and since then, he has been out of action. Though the left-hander has shown a great deal of progress and has also featured in some practice games.

But it is still unknown how much time he will take to come back to the field. Pant is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for his rehab program. In the press conference on Monday, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma gave a massive update on Pant’s recovery.

It will not be a wrong statement to say that India has missed an impactful player like Pant in the batting order across formats. They have tried out some players but haven’t had much success. Rohit said, “Unfortunately, Rishabh is not fit yet. According to today’s fitness report, Rishabh Pant is not ready for Asia Cup 2023 selection.”

Pant has missed BGT 2023, IPL 2023, and WTC Final 2023 since then. India tried KS Bharat in red-ball cricket. But it didn’t work. India also lost the all-important WTC final, struggling in the batting order. In white-ball cricket as well, India struggled to find a consistent middle order batter.

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have done well, but they also had injuries. But they are now back in the Asia Cup 2023. India has two big tournaments coming up in the next 3–4 months. The ODI World Cup is all set to take place in India in October and November. On the other hand, India will now be back in action on September 2 against Pakistan in the first game of the Asia Cup.
