“There are a lot of young openers ahead of him” – Saba Karim believes Prithvi Shaw has fallen off in the pecking order

Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim feels that even after doing so well his quickfire starts for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), young batsman Prithvi Shaw is far behind others in the pecking order.

In 2018, everyone were discussing and talking about the young opening batsman Prithvi Shaw after he scored his maiden Test century in the Test match against West Indies, becoming the youngest to do so. He was being discussed as the next Virender Sehwag of Indian team, who could bat with aggressive intent on Test cricket too.

But, thereafter, started a poor run of form. After scoring that century against West Indies, and 2 fifties, Shaw was unable to keep it going and suffered several injury dilemma, that eventually forced him out of the Indian team.

And, now that Shaw is doing well in the domestic cricket, in the tournament like Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, or even the IPL, he is finding it really hard to make it to Indian team, with players like Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad is being given preference ahead of in ODIs, while Shubman Gill is being preferred for Tests.

While on the same, former Indian cricketer Saba Karim admitted that Prithvi Shaw has fallen down in the pecking order. While talking on a special on NDTV, Saba Karim stated that there are lot of youngsters who are currently ahead of Shaw at the moment.

“Right now there are a lot of young openers ahead of Prithvi Shaw and that is why he is down in the pecking order,” said Saba Karim.

However, he added that there is all chances that he will make a strong comeback with the all shots that he has, he would want to put more runs beside his name and pose a challenge to the others. However, he also mentioned that Shaw needs to work on his fitness a lot more.
