Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has opined that his team’s star fast bowler Mohammed Shami may not be in the scheme of things for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Shami was one of the fast bowlers present in the Indian squad for the mega event which happened last year in the UAE. He did a decent job for the nation, but he has not played any T20I matches after that mega event.

After that, Shami played a match-winning role for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022. He destroyed the opposition batting lineups during the powerplay overs and gave fine starts to the Ahmedabad-based franchise. The right-arm fast bowler took wickets on the first and last ball of his season.

Despite the dream season, Ashish Nehra thinks that Shami may not be in the scheme of the things for T20 World Cup 2022 but he may play in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Here’s what Nehra said on Cricbuzz:

“Seems like he doesn’t feature in the current scheme of things for the T20 World Cup. But we all know about his abilities. Even if he doesn’t play this year’s T20 World Cup, India will definitely consider him for the 2023 World Cup at home. India can play him in England for the 50-over games after the Test match.”

Ashish Nehra mentioned that Mohammed Shami is on a break after the IPL season

During the same discussion, Nehra stated that Shami has been on a break after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League. Nehra pointed out that the Indian cricket team will not play too many ODI matches this year, which is why Shami should play in the series against the England cricket team which will follow the Test match.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Shami is in the scheme of the things when the selectors pick the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
