Former Indian cricket team opener Virender Sehwag recalled how the Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scolded off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin when he was a part of the Chennai Super Kings team during the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League. Sehwag was a member of the Punjab Kings squad then, and the battles between Punjab and Chennai entertained the fans a lot that year.

During one of the matches between the Chennai Super Kings and the Punjab Kings during the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League, Ravichandran Ashwin scalped the wicket of the in-form Glenn Maxwell. Ashwin also gave him a send-off by taking some dust in his hand and blew at Maxwell. This send-off did not go down well with Virender Sehwag or MS Dhoni.

“When I was playing for Punjab, (Ravichandran) Ashwin dismissed (Glenn) Maxwell and then he picked up some dust and blew at him. I didn’t like that. But I never came out and spoke publicly about whether what he did was wrong or against the ‘Spirit of the game’, though MS Dhoni got angry and even scolded him,” Virender Sehwag spoke about the incident during a chat with Cricbuzz.

Virender Sehwag recalled this incident while a discussion was on about the ‘Spirit of Cricket.’ Ravichandran Ashwin’s controversial incident with the Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan is well-known by now. And discussing the same, Sehwag said it was the mistake of Dinesh Karthik because he was the one who said in the press conference that Morgan did not appreciate Ashwin’s gesture.
