After the Indian cricket team’s task in England finishes, they next has to go on the tour of West Indies, where the team has to play 3 ODIs and 5 T20 International matches. The tour will start from 22nd July. According to the report of Cricbuzz, many key players of the Indian team will be rested for the tour.
The Indian team players have been going through a very busy schedule recently. After the IPL, India has played T20I series against South Africa and Ireland, where almost a 2nd string team was used while the main players were busy with the 5th Test against England. After the Test match, India next takes on England in 3 match T20I and as many ODI matches, which will end on the 17th July only.
After that, the Boys in Blue will take the field once again on the 22nd July against West Indies. As a result of tight schedule, reports say that white ball regulars of Indian team may be rested for the West Indies tour.
Regular captain Rohit Sharma will be seen taking over the command of the team. Although, which players will be rested has not been decided yet, but it is expected that only senior players will be given rest. The squad for the tour was to be announced in the last few days but due to some issues, it has not been announced yet.
Chief selector Chetan Sharma is with the team in England, so he can talk to Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant after the Edgbaston Test.
Coach Rahul Dravid has worked with many captains during his tenure so far. In such a situation, only Rohit Sharma can be given the responsibility of captaincy to provide stability in the team.
India has to play its first T20I match against England on 7 July in Southampton. For this, except Rohit Sharma, all the other players have reached the venue. Rohit had contacted COVID and was present with the Indian team on the last day of Edgbaston Test after recovering from it.
The team is coached by VVS Laxman, who was with the team in the tour of Ireland and two warm-up matches against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire too. The other two T20I matches of the series will be played in Birmingham on 9 July and Nottingham on 10 July. On the other hand, the first match of the ODI series will be played at The Oval on 12 July, the second match will be played at Lord’s on 14 July and the third match will be played on 17 July at Old Trafford.
