The left-arm fast bowler mentioned that the Pakistani players have reached out to a couple of overseas cricketers who regularly plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to gain insights into the playing conditions in India.

Pakistan’s cricket team doesn’t usually compete in India, except for ICC events, because of the tense political relations between the two nations, thus, Pakistan players are not very much aware of the Indian pitches and conditions. The last time Pakistan played in India was during the T20 World Cup 2016, that was played in India. Meanwhile, the recent T20 World Cup 2021 that India hosted, was moved to UAE due to COVID pandemic.

“We had discussions with all the international players who have experience in the IPL. It seems like spinners might find more assistance, so we’ll be focusing on hitting good lengths. Our team, as the top-ranked ODI team, is in good form, and we’ve prepared thoroughly,” Afridi mentioned in his conversation with AFP.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old also discussed the Pakistan pace trio, which consists of him, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah. He explained their synergy, mentioning that Haris brings the heat with his speed, while he and Naseem focus on securing early breakthroughs for the team.

“We understand our roles, whether it’s with the new or old ball. Haris brings the speed and makes an impact with his pace. Naseem and I focus on taking early wickets. Our effective communication is a key factor in our success,” Afridi explained.

India and Pakistan are set to face off in the Super Four round of the Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday, September 10, at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium. The last match between the two sides in the group stages of the competition was washed out due to rain after Indian team finished its inning.
