The Indian cricket team’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has finally opened up on not being in plan of the T20I setup for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 that is to be played in Australia.

Shikhar Dhawan is Indian cricket team’s one of the most successful opening batsman and formed a great opening partnership with now India captain Rohit Sharma over the last couple of years, but with emergence of new faces, the established faces are being sidelined and Shikhar Dhawan is one of them.

T20 cricket is a fast paced format where the batting need to bat at a quick rate. While Shikhar Dhawan has scored runs consistently, he doesn’t bat with the strike rate of the likes of KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, who are both preffered over Dhawan for the Indian team.

Dhawan has been seemingly missing from the ODI squad too and has been a part of the team only in irregular basis. With the World Cup in mind next year, team India captain Rohit Sharma seems like wants his former fellow back at the team and has been getting opportunities to play now.

However, Dhawan is still worried about not being in the scheme of things for the T20 format, even though India is playing with a makeshift opener Suryakumar Yadav in opening alongside Rohit Sharma.

While speaking to Sports Tak, Shikhar Dhawan opened up on his exclusion from the T20I squad. He said that he is not disappointed at not being a part of the T20 squad and believes that there is a time for everything and probably it is not his time.

“To be honest. I don’t feel any disappointment as such. I feel that there is a time for everything and maybe it’s not my time. Maybe I lack something that I haven’t been able to do too well,” Dhawan said to Sports Tak.

The last time that Shikhar Dhawan played T20 cricket for India was in 2021 against Sri Lanka when the senior team was busy in England. He played 3 matches there and scored 86 runs from those at a strike rate of 108.86.
