With only a few days left until the Asian Games kick off, there’s some unfortunate news for the Indian cricket team and the fans. According to a report in the Indian Express, fast bowler Shivam Mavi has gotten injured and won’t be able to participate in the Asian Games.

While the exact nature of Mavi’s injury yet not known, but the BCCI is expected to release a statement about it very soon as per the Indian Express. Although this is a significant setback, the report suggests that either Umran Malik or Prasidh Krishna might step in as a replacement for Mavi. It also states that the selectors initially considered Yash Thakur, but he couldn’t be chosen due to an injury he’s dealing with as well.

Meanwhile, the Indian team players have been asked to report to Bangalore for a two-week training camp, and the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will be overseeing it. VVS Laxman will take on the role of coaching the second-string Indian team.

The Asian Games 2023 is scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8th. Chennai Super Kings and Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading the Indian team. Initially, the BCCI had decided not to participate in the Asian Games, citing prior commitments. However, they later reconsidered and decided to send both the men’s and women’s teams.

The men’s team for the Asian Games will be a second string squad since the main team will be busy with the 50-over World Cup happening in India itself. The women’s cricket competition is scheduled from September 19 to September 28, while the men’s competition will start from September 28 to October 8. Both of these competitions will be played in the T20I format of the game.
