After securing their spot in the grand final, the Indian cricket team is likely to make some changes for their upcoming match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023. It’s pretty obvious that they will tweak the lineup, with around four or five adjustments compared to the team that faced Sri Lanka recently. However, one player who’s unlikely to be replaced is Shreyas Iyer.

Shreyas Iyer injury update

Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batsman, had to skip the Pakistan game due to a back spasm. He did practice for more than 30 minutes during the team’s optional training session on Thursday, 1 day prior to the match day. But, according to Cricbuzz, Iyer is still not fully recovered, making it doubtful that he’ll play against Bangladesh on Friday.

If Iyer doesn’t play this match, which seems likely, it’s likely that he’ll miss final match as well, especially with KL Rahul performing well with a century in his return match against Pakistan. Iyer might only get a chance to play during the three-match ODI series against Australia which starts later this month.

Additionally, there are expectations of significant changes in the XI. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, the two pacers who played all four games in the Asia Cup, might be given a break. The management wants to manage Bumrah’s workload after his 10-month break.

Shardul Thakur, who missed the previous game, might return, and Hardik Pandya might be left out, resulting in three changes in the bowling department – Shami, Prasidh, and Thakur coming in for Bumrah, Siraj, and Pandya.

In terms of batting, there might be some alterations in the order, possibly to give opportunities to players like Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. Suryakumar, who’s part of the World Cup squad, is a likely choice. It wouldn’t be surprising if one of the top-order batsmen is rested for the Bangladesh match.
