Shreyas Iyer reacts after scoring a hundred on Test cricket debut against New Zealand

Indian cricket team’s new Test cricket Hero Shreyas Iyer revelaed that he couldn’t sleep well overnight and woke up at 5 AM, early in the morning.

The Mumbai born right-hand batsman was included in Indian cricket team’s squad for the 2 match Test series against New Zealand as some of the senior pros have been rested for the series and was handed debut in the 1st Test match itself.

Winning the toss, India’s stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane opted to bat first. Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal opened the inning for India, however, the latter departed early while the Gill scored a half-century.

India was failing to take control of the match as they kept on losing wicket on various intervals. Then came in the debutant Shreyas Iyer, played some beautiful shots and ended the Day 1 with 75 runs beside his name. He went on to complete the century today, on the Day 2.

While talking to the broadcasters after the end of Day 2 play, Shreyas Iyer talked about how the last night went for him. Iyer revealed that he didn’t sleep well last night and woke up early in the morning, at 5 AM Indian Standard Time, while the match starts from 9:30.

Shreyas also revealed the tip he received from Sunil Gavaskar when he received his maiden Test cap for India from the legendary Indian batsman’s hand.

Iyer stated that Sunil Gavaskar motivated him during the team huddle on Thursday and also provided a very important tip for him that don’t look far ahead and just enjoy the game.

Shreyas Iyer became the 303rd Test cricketer for India and joined the list of some of the top veterans who have scored a hundred on his Test cricket debut for Team India.

India vs New Zealand 1st Test

India got all-out for 345 runs in their 1st inning, with contributions from Iyer, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja. Tim Southee was sensational for the visiting team as he picked up 5 wickets, while Kyle Jamieson got 3 and Ajaz Patel with 2 wickets.

New Zealand have got off to a great start in chase of India’s 345 and they have ended the day’s play with 129 runs on the board without losing any wicket and trailing India by 216 runs.
