In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 clash between India and Sri Lanka, Mohammed Shami showcased his exceptional skills as a right-arm seamer. He played a pivotal role in India’s remarkable 302-run victory at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, dismantling the Sri Lankan batting lineup.
Shami’s outstanding performance not only secured the win but also elevated him to the position of India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in ODI World Cup history, surpassing legendary bowlers like Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath.
Following his five-wicket haul, Shami made a mysterious gesture that left the audience curious about its significance. Indian cricketer Shubman Gill later revealed that Shami’s gesture was dedicated to India’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambarey.
“Shami gesture was for our bowling coach that’s because he doesn’t have any hair on his head,” Shubman Gill said during the post match interview on Star Sports.
The Indian cricket team has been delivering outstanding performances, notably overpowering England and Sri Lanka while defending their targets.
Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India has become the first team to secure a spot in the semifinals of the 2023 World Cup. They are currently on a winning streak with seven consecutive victories and stand as the sole undefeated team in the tournament.
