Indian cricket team’s legends and former players returned to action today, when the Jay Shah led Secretary’s XI played the Sourav Ganguly led President’s XI in a friendly match in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) members, President Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah, and representatives from various other associations got together in Kolkata today before the all important BCCI AGM takes place tomorrow.

Before the AGM on Saturday, the 4th of December, all the members got together to play a friendly match at the Eden Gardens. The two teams were Sourav Ganguly led President’s XI and Jay Shah led Secretary’s XI.

The notable names who featured in this match are the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, Mohammad Azharuddin, Mithun Minhas and Arun Dhumal and many more representatives from various state associations.

Witnessing the greats like Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin play is always something you want to do, however, due to the COVID-19 protocols, the match was played behind close doors.

It was Jay Shah from Secretary’s XI who won the toss opted to ball first. They put up 128 runs on the board for the loss of 3 wickets in their restricted 15 overs of play.

The Sourav Ganguly led President’s XI fell short by 1 run in the match as they lost the match. The President’s XI got off to a flying start, but Secretary’s XI captain Jay Shah struck 3 wickets and gave no chance to President’s XI to make a comeback.

Sourav Ganguly, who was the main attraction of the match, looked like the same old Ganguly. The BCCI President displayed his class batting, playing his favourite cover drive shot. The Behala, Kolkata born former Indian captain added 35 runs for his team, that included four boundaries and 2 sixes.

The BCCI President and Secretary and representatives of ther state associations will sit on a Annual General Meeting on the 4th of December, Saturday.

Many important decisions are likely to be taken on the day, including the plans for the South Africa series later this month, which is under of COVID-19’s variant Omicron. Discussion is also likely on the potential date for the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
