The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has spoken on the latest big event in Indian cricket as Virat Kohli decided to step down as India’s Test skipper.

Virat Kohli probably gave his fans and the entire world of cricket the biggest shock ever as he announced his decision to step down as India’s Test captain with immediate effect.

The decision comes following Indian team’s defeat in the South Africa Test series, where India lost the series to hosts after back-to-back defeat against the Proteas, having won the first Test quite comfortably.

What did BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had to say ?

Former Indian cricketer and the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly took to his Social Media handle to confirm that the decision is Virat’s personal decision.

The BCCI President posted on his Twitter handle that under Virat’s leadership, the Indian team has made huge strides across the formats. However, confirmed that Virat Kohli’s decision to step down as India’s Test captain is his personal decision and the BCCI respects it.

However, he also confirmed that Kohli will remain India’s important member and will play a role to take the Indian team to new heights.

Virat’s shocking decision comes after the batsman’s decision to step away from captaincy in the IPL for RCB and India’s T20 captain. That was followed by the sacking of him as India’s ODI captain.

Virat Kohli has not been at his best form recently, as he is struggling to score runs. It is believed that Kohli’s decisions are to manage his workload and help himself to return to his best self.

The BCCI is yet to confirm any names for the captiancy role, but with Rohit Sharma leading the India in the limited overs format could mean that he might be the top candidate for the role.

Indian team will next take on the Sri Lankan team in a 2 match Test series from February 25, that will also consists of 3 ODI matches.
