Former England cricket team player David Lloyd has pointed out how the extension of the Indian Premier League will impact the international cricketing schedule. Lloyd said that the increase in the number of teams and matches means that the Indian Premier League will need a bigger window.

He stated that 12 men of the New Zealand cricket team are unavailable for selection for the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the Netherlands. Also, the South African cricket team will not have a full-strength squad for the ICC World Test Championship series against the Bangladesh cricket team. Lloyd felt that the alarm bells should be ringing now.

In his column for the Daily Mail, David Lloyd wrote:

“The alarm balls should be ringing. Already, South Africa’s full attack is not available for upcoming Tests against Bangladesh, and New Zealand have 12 men ruled out of selection versus Afghanistan [Netherlands]. Make no mistake, the IPL is disrupting the traditional international programme.”

David Lloyd was once a commentator in the Indian Premier League

Not many fans would know that David Lloyd was once a commentator in the IPL. He had multiple commentary stints in the league, but before that, he was critical of the Indian Premier League. Almost four years have passed since fans saw Lloyd in the commentary box for an IPL game.

It is interesting to note that now Lloyd has made a comment against the development of the IPL. While some critics are unhappy with the expansion of the world’s grandest T20 league, the viewership and the revenue generation from the IPL are at the highest levels. With two new franchises joining the competition, fans should expect more thrilling matches this season.

IPL 2022 will start on March 26 with a match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders. The match will happen at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
