Jason Roy didn't find himself on the team sheet for the T20 World Cup 2022.

England opener Jason Roy has been a vital cog of the national side in white-ball cricket over the past couple of years. However, since the last edition of the T20 World Cup in 2021, his form has been a big concern for the side. He has scored to find a rhyme in his batting and as a result, he was omitted from England’s squad for the T20 World Cup.

On top of that, the right-handed batter is likely to lose the central contract, given his diminishing role in the side. Rob Key, the managing director of the England national team, is still confident that Roy can make a comeback if he performs well in domestic T20 leagues across the globe.

“It’s just a case of him finding form, and I’m sure he will have plenty of opportunities in the abundance of T20 cricket that there is around the world to find that form again.” said Key.

Notably, the 32-year-old had a disastrous white-ball summer followed by The Hundred tournament. Though he has lost his position in T20I cricket, he is still very much in the scheme of the ODI team and could play a vital part in the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023.

“I would argue that the 50-over format is his strongest suit and we still see him as very much a part of this setup. But, given his white-ball summer and then The Hundred, we feel it’s too much of a gamble to continue going into Pakistan and straight into Australia,” key added.

England are going through a reconstruction of their side as they actively look to identify for the next set of players who can take the team forward. With a series of ICC events over the next few years, they will be keen to clinch as many titles as possible.

The T20 World Cup will be a big shot for them given the kind of players they have, although many big names are going to miss the marquee event.
