In the latest developments, India have been hit with a major blow as star bowler Deepak Chahar is likely to miss the rest of the ODI series against South Africa. He wasn’t picked in the 1st ODI which surprised many and raised concerns over the pacer. Now as per reports, he has twisted his ankle and will require more time to fully recover.

It’s a major concern for the Men in Blue as they are already suffering from a series of injuries. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah was already ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a back injury. India are yet to name his replacement but it’s expected to be either Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar.

“Deepak has sustained a twisted ankle but it’s not too serious. However a few days of rest might be advisable.” a close source said.

“So it will be team management’s call if they would like to risk Deepak as he is in T20 World Cup stand-by list. In any case, if there is requirement there, it would be a priority.” the source added.

While Shami’s fitness is also subject to clearance, Chahar’s injury will mean that he will head into the marquee event without proper game time. Both the pacers were named on the reserve players list, but one of them will walk into the main squad to fill the spot left by Bumrah.

Team India have already reached Perth, Australia and started their practice sessions to prepare for their opening fixture against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23. The Men in Blue will be under pressure after their poor campaign in the last edition of the T20 World Cup.
