Sunil Gavaskar stated that Australia’s record in the knockout matches gives them the upper-hand against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2021 Final.

Australia and New Zealand have met each other 18 times before in any ICC tournament, where, the Australian team has won 12 of those matches. In terms of Australia’s records in the knockout matches, the Aussies have played 31 knockout matches in any ICC events, of which, the Aussies have won 20, that includes winning the 50 over Cricket World Cup 5 times and Champions Trophy twice.

Sunil Gavaskar stated that superior records definitely gives Australia the edge over New Zealand. He continued that Australia have got momentum going into the match, not just against New Zealand but against every team, Australia have unbelievable record in the knockout matches.

He also talked about how crucial is Devon Conway’s injury for New Zealand, who injured himself in frustration against England. Gavaskar said that if Conway was fit, then he would have said 50-50, but him being not there and a new batsman coming in is not good for New Zealand.

The Trans-Tasman neighbours will not be meeting for the first time in any World Cup final. Both the teams have already played against each other in a Final in 2015 during the 50 over Cricket World Cup, that was held in Australia. And it was Kangaroos, who came out on top over the Kiwis, and that in itself makes it a great battle between the team.

Whereas New Zealand will be looking to dethrone the Aussies, the Australians will also to repeat the 2015 Cricket World Cup Final.

Australia and New Zealand in World Cup events

Like mentioned above, the Australian team, who are a force to reckon with, have won multiple ICC Trophies, including winning the 50 overs World Cup 5 times. But it is the T20 World Cup, which the Aussies have played to claim.

While for the Kiwis, they have failed to win any World Cup event. They had reached the Finals of the 50 over World Cup in 2015 and 2019, but was not successful to lift the Trophy, and it was Australia and England who got the better of them.
