Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has picked the 15 players who, in his opinion, should be a part of the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Gavaskar has left out some big names and made some interesting selections. In an interview with Sports Tak, Sunil formed his squad for ICC T20 World Cup. The squad features some expected names like captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma. Both Kohli and Sharma are among the best batsmen in the world right now. Surprisingly, Gavaskar left Shikhar Dhawan out. In case you didn’t know, Dhawan is the top-scorer in IPL 2021 as of now. Also, he has an exceptional record in the ICC tournaments.
Gavaskar also decided against including Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer in the squad. The batting section of the squad comprises the trio of Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Rahul will be the back-up wicket-keeping option, with Pant being the preferred choice.
Mumbai Indians’ duo of Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya are the first two all-rounders in the squad. While Hardik is most likely to make it to the final Indian squad, Krunal’s chances are lower than Hardik. Gavaskar also picked Washington Sundar in the squad, although he is dealing with an injury right now. The last all-rounder in the team is Ravindra Jadeja, who seems a 100% lock in the final team.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur are the pace-bowling options. All five bowlers have done well in the IPL. Chahar, Kumar and Thakur can also contribute with the bat. Yuzvendra Chahal completes the squad.
