Suresh Raina has switched his role in the Indian Premier League. Earlier, he used to play for the Chennai Super Kings but now he will work as a commentator. Raina went unsold in the IPL 2022 Auction. None of the teams bid even INR 2 crore for the 2011 Cricket World Cup winner’s services.
Soon after, Raina received an offer from Star Sports to become a member of the Star Sports Hindi commentary panel. The former Chennai Super Kings player accepted it and is now all set to make his IPL commentary debut in 2022.
Ahead of his new journey in the Indian Premier League, Raina addressed a press conference. During that press conference, he was asked about the future of the Chennai Super Kings leadership group. MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina are the only two men to have led the franchise from Chennai in the Indian Premier League.
While many fans think that Ravindra Jadeja is the number one contender to replace MS Dhoni as the captain after his retirement, Raina named three more CSK players who can take up the responsibility.

Suresh Raina felt that experienced players like Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa and Dwayne Bravo are also in the race to take up the leadership responsibilities in CSK.
“Rayudu is there then you have Robin Uthappa then DJ Bravo is there. Jadeja, I think, has a good cricketing brain and has been performing well recently,” said Raina.
It will be interesting to see who becomes the new captain of the Chennai Super Kings team. As mentioned by Suresh, there are multiple candidates. Even Ruturaj Gaikwad could be in the consideration because he has captained Maharashtra in domestic cricket. He won the Orange Cap in IPL last year and a similar performance this year could strengthen his candidature.
