Pakistan, who held the top ranking before the Asia Cup 2023 began, has now dropped to the third position, behind even their rivals India. This change occurred because of their heavy lost to India and then to Sri Lanka that led to them being eliminated from the tournament last night, on Thursday, 14th September.

Under the leadership of Babar Azam, Pakistan cricket team couldn’t stay composed and lost a thrilling match on the last ball by two wickets against Sri Lanka last night. Prior to that, India had defeated them with a massive 228-run margin in the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage.

Team India have already secure their place in the Final of the Asia Cup 2023 and has maintained an unbeaten record throughout the tournament. This impressive performance has propelled them to the second position in the rankings, overtaking Pakistan. Currently, India has accumulated 116 rating points, just two points behind the top-ranked ODI team, Australia, whom they play in a 3 match series later this month.

Pakistan’s rating now stands at 115 points. India has a promising opportunity to reclaim the top spot in the near future if they secure victory against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final. For this to happen, Australia must also lose their remaining two matches in the 5-match series against South Africa.

Additionally, India and Australia are scheduled to compete in a 3-match ODI series starting on September 22. In contrast, Pakistan doesn’t have any international ODI matches leading up to the World Cup 2023, which begins on October 5. They will engage in 50-over warm-up matches against New Zealand and Australia, but these won’t be considered as official international matches to be considered for ranking.
