    Benched XI IPL 2022

Every season, at least a few players finish the campaign without playing a single game. This is expected in an IPL edition. Especially when it comes to the foreign players, due to the four-overseas quota, a few established cricketers also do not get a match. On that note, in this article, we take a look at the benched XI of IPL 2022.

IPL 2022 had the introduction of two new teams. Hence, compared to other seasons, more players got opportunities in this edition. Nevertheless, a few players did remain on the bench. They will hope to get an opportunity in the upcoming campaign.

Openers: Finn Allen (WK) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Finn Allen and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are the openers in this benched XI of IPL 2022. Since Faf du Plessis was the captain of the squad, Finn Allen did not get a single game in IPL 2022. However, a few RCB fans feel that he will occupy the opener’s slot in the future years. Gurbaz was a late addition to the Gujarat Titans team. Despite Matthew Wade’s poor form, the Afghan did not get an opportunity. The teenager will want to get a few chances to show his skills.

Middle-Order: Yash Dhull, Gurkeerat Singh and Glenn Phillips

Many felt that Yash Dhull could have been given a chance but the Delhi youngster did not find a game. Of course, he will be groomed for the future by the Capitals. Gurkeerat Singh is a veteran in the competition and was on the bench for GT throughout the season. SRH had its overseas batting department frozen and hence, Phillips did not get a chance. Even after Kane Williamson became unavailable for the last game, the management did not include the Kiwi in the XI.

All-Rounders: Mohammad Nabi (C), Jayant Yadav and Rajvardhan Hangargekar

Mohammad Nabi, Jayant Yadav and Rajvardhan Hangargekar will form the all-rounder’s department in this benched XI of IPL 2022. Nabi and Jayant Yadav are experienced campaigners and yet, were left warming the bench. Considering KKR struggled throughout the campaign, it was a surprise that they did not use Nabi. CSK is grooming Rajvardhan for the future and therefore the management decided that it was too early to try him out.

Bowlers: Karn Sharma, Jason Behrendorff, and Lungi Ngidi

With Wanindu Hasaranga performing well, backup leggie Karn Sharma was never going to find a chance. The same goes with Jason, who was Josh Hazlewood’s reserve at RCB. The duo could get released ahead of next season. Lungi Ngidi also did not play a game in IPL 2022. The player must focus on his form in the T20 format to retain his place in the South African Team.
