Umran Malik won the Man of the Match award in a losing cause while playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Gujarat Titans last night in IPL 2022. Wankhede Stadium played host to a thrilling game, where GT defeated SRH by five wickets.
Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mohammed Shami dismissed Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi before they could score big, but half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram guided Sunrisers Hyderabad’s score past 150. Shashank Singh finished the innings in style with a six-ball 25*.
Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 195/6 on the board in the first innings. Chasing 196 to win, Gujarat Titans got off to a decent start thanks to a 69-run partnership between Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha. However, the momentum shifted in SRH’s favor when Umran Malik came in to bowl.
Malik troubled the Gujarat Titans batters with his incredible pace. He first uprooted the off-stump of Shubman Gill. Soon after, he dismissed Hardik Pandya caught out. Wriddhiman Saha, David Miller and Abhinav Manohar lost their stumps to Umran as well.

No other Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler could pick up a wicket in the innings. Thus, Umran set a world record for taking a five-wicket haul in a T20 innings where no other wicket fell.

Speaking at the post-match presentation after winning the Man of the Match award against the Gujarat Titans, Malik said:
” I always bowl fast but I’ve been trying to bowl better lines and lengths. Plan was to rotate between between my plans. Idea was to attack the stumps and it’s worked well for me.”
