Virat Kohli as captain; Cricket Australia picks Best XI of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023; Leaves out Rohit Sharma

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has reached the knockout stage. All the group matches have been done, and India finished at the top of the points table. India, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand have qualified for the semi-finals.

The first semi-final will take place on November 15 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India will lock horns with New Zealand in this high-voltage clash. It will be a virtual rematch of the 2019 World Cup semi-final, where India lost to New Zealand.

The second semi-final will have a clash between South Africa and Australia, two teams that have crossed the 350-run mark the most times in this tournament. That game will take place on November 15 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The final of the tournament will take place on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia (CA) recently released the Team of the World Cup 2023 so far. They picked up the best performers in the team and gave the captaincy role to not any captain. In fact, they picked Virat Kohli to lead the side. Virat left the ODI captaincy in 2021, and he was picked as the captain of the best XI of the World Cup 2023 by CA.

This team has Quinton de Kock (591 runs) and David Warner (499 runs) as two openers, while de Kock will also do the keeping job. Interestingly, Rohit Sharma was not picked, who has scored 503 runs at a strike rate of 121.49, with the most sixes (24).

At No. 4, CA picked New Zealand’s sensation Rachin Ravindra (565 runs and 5 wickets). He was followed by Virat as captain, who is also the top scorer with 594 runs with two centuries and five half-centuries. At nos. 5 and 6, CA picked Aiden Markram (396 runs) and Glenn Maxwell (396 runs and 5 wickets).

Marco Jansen (157 runs and 17 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (111 runs and 17 wickets) are the two all-rounders in the team. Adam Zampa is the spinner who has taken the most wickets (22) in the tournament. Mohammed Shami (17 wickets) and Jasprit Bumrah (17 wickets) are the two main pacers in the team. Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka (21 wickets) was picked as the 12th man.
