Even though Virat Kohli is no longer the captain of the Indian cricket team, there is no denying that he is still one of the best batsman in the world. And he has proven it again by surpassing legend Sachin Tendulkar to create a new record.

The Indian cricket team is currently playing the 1st of the scheduled 3 match ODI series today in Paarl against South Africa. During the match, Virat Kohli surpassed another record belonged to Sachin Tendulkar.

Virat Kohli smashes new record

Virat is now the highest run-getter for India while playing away One Day Internationals (ODI). Kohli was just required to score nine runs when he stepped foot onto the crease in the 1st ODI against South Africa.

He went on to score more than that, and as of writing this, he has scored 35 runs while working with Shikhar Dhawan in pursuit of the South Africa’s set target of 297 runs.

Sachin Tendulkar has the record to his name before today, where he had scored 5065 runs from 147 ODI innings. Now Virat Kohli has surpassed that run in just 104 innings and with better average that Sachin.

They are both followed by legendary Indian and captains, MS Dhoni (4520 runs from 124 innings), Rahul Dravid (3998 runs from 110 innings) and Sourav Ganguly has scored 3468 runs from 105 innings.

South Africa vs India 1st ODI 2022

Talking about the South Vs India 1st ODI match, South Africa have set a target of 297 runs for India after a strong display of batting from the Proteas.

At one stage, South Africa were down to 3 wickets for 68 runs, but captain Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen added a partnership of 204 runs to bring South Africa back into the contest. Temba Bavuma scored 110, while van der Dussen scored 129 runs from only 96 balls.

As of writing this, India has lost 1 wicket, that is the opening batsman KL Rahul, who departed after scoring 12 runs, however, a partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli has brought India back into the match.
