Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma was shocked to see no clarification from the BCCI regarding the big decision they made recently. Earlier this year, Indian Test captain Virat Kohli had clarified that he wants to step down as the T20I captain of the Indian cricket team. However, Kohli highlighted in his social media message that he has no intentions of relinquishing the captaincy role in ODIs and Test matches.

Despite that clarification, the All India Senior Selection Committee made the big decision to replace Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma as the Indian cricket team’s ODI captain. Rajkumar Sharma, the childhood coach of Kohli, decided to reach out to his former disciple regarding the same. However, Kohli did not receive Rajkumar’s call.

During his recent appearance on the Khelneeti podcast, Rajkumar Sharma revealed details of what he knew and said:

“I haven’t talked to him (Virat Kohli) yet. His phone is switched off for some reason. But as far as my opinion is concerned, he had specifically stepped down from T20 captaincy and the selectors should’ve straightaway asked him to step down from both the white-ball formats, or not step down at all.”

Why did BCCI take away ODI captaincy from Virat Kohli?

Many fans are still confused regarding the BCCI’s decision to change the ODI skipper. Virat had an excellent record in the 50-over format as Indian skipper as the team registered 65 wins in 95 matches under his leadership. Quite a few big names like KL Rahul, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya and others peaked during the last four years under Kohli’s captaincy.

However, it seems the BCCI wanted only one white-ball captain. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly spoke about the same and mentioned that the selectors wanted one skipper for white-ball cricket and one for red-ball cricket. Thus, they made up their minds to name Rohit as the new ODI captain.
