The IPL 2022 has produced a set of Indian fast bowlers for the international side. The selection committee is also working hard to ensure that every young player gets enough opportunities. One such bowler who impressed everyone with his accuracy and wicket-taking ability was Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm quick is certainly in the scheme of things for the Indian management. The 23-year-old has also done well in the limited options he has had.

He impressed everyone in his debut game against England, bowling his very first international over a maiden. Arshdeep also bowled well in the first T20I match against West Indies on Friday. He returned with a figure of 2/24. However, he started his spell with a six and a four off the very first two balls by Kyle Mayers. But later, he surprised the West Indian opener with a short ball to dismiss him.

The left-armer received appreciation from many former cricketers and fans in the first T20 against West Indies. Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, also lauded the young pacer. He indicated that the pacer might have emulated the legendary Wasim Akram’s fast bowling style.

Sharma also pointed out that Arshdeep hides the ball in his hand during his bowling run-up, which the legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram used to do in his days. In an interaction with India News, Sharma said that Arshdeep is a thinking cricketer and, at a very young age, he knows what to do.

He said, “It seems like Arshdeep Singh has followed Wasim Akram very closely as he holds the ball in his right hand while running to hide it from the batter. He has to learn a lot of things. But he is a very promising and very intelligent cricketer.”

Former Indian cricketer, Reetinder Singh Sodhi, who was present during the discussion, also lauded the 23-year-old. He pointed out that despite not playing in the XI, Arshdeep has worked hard in nets and that shows in his performance in whatever opportunities he has got. Sodhi added that it is not easy to bowl a yorker in T20 game and that shows that Arshdeep is ready for international cricket.

India started the series on a winning note. They defeated the hosts by 68 runs in the first game to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Both teams will meet in the second T20 on Monday at St. Kitts.
