That is one of the reasons that the entire cricket fraternity calls MS Dhoni “captain cool.” However, former Indian opener and Dhoni’s teammate Virender Sehwag reckons that there is someone who deserves the tag of “Captain Cool” in the modern era.

Sehwag feels that the Australian captain Pat Cummins is the new “Captain Cool” after he led his team in a thrilling win over England in the first game of the five-match Ashes series in Edgbaston. Cummins was the standout performer with both the bat and the ball.

He took four wickets in the second inning and scored 38 and an unbeaten 44 in two innings of the game to take his team home. Cummins also added the match-winning 8th wicket stand of 55 runs with Nathan Lyon to seal the deal for Australia.

After Australia’s win, Sehwag praised the efforts of Australia and Cummins and lauded him for taking his team home. Adding to that, he also called the Australian captain new Mr. Cool in his tweet.

Sehwag tweeted, “What a Test Match. One of the best I have seen in recent times. Testcricket is Best Cricket. Was a gutsy decision by England to declare just before close on Day 1, especially considering the weather. But Khawaja was outstanding in both innings and @patcummins30 is the new Mr. Cool in Test cricket. What an innings under pressure and that partnership with Lyon was one to remember for a long time. #Ashes #ENGvsAUS”

With the win, Australia has taken a 1-0 lead in the series. Usman Khawaja won the “Man of the Match” for his 141 and 65 in the game. Both teams will now lock horns in the second game, starting on June 28 at the Lord’s.
