Despite Pakistan’s subdued performance on the cricket field, they are creating quite a buzz off-field, with Waqar Younis being the latest to stir up controversy. After Pakistan’s second loss in the World Cup to Australia, Waqar engaged in a post-match chat with Aaron Finch and Shane Watson.

In a light-hearted moment, he quipped, “I am a half-Aussie,” which left Finch and Watson in splits.

It turns out Waqar’s remark was not meant to indicate shame but was a nod to his personal life. He is indeed “half-Aussie” as he is married to Pakistani-Australian doctor Faryal, and they reside in Australia with their three children. Waqar is currently in India as a broadcaster for the World Cup.

While the comment was made in good humor, it hasn’t been well-received by many Pakistani fans, given the controversies surrounding the World Cup. Some fans reminded him that he is first and foremost Pakistani and is representing Pakistan on the broadcasting panel.

As for the Australia vs Pakistan match, Babar Azam & Co. were outclassed by Australia, with the Aussies dominating both with bat and ball. Australia posted a substantial total of 367 while Pakistan could manage only 305 in response.

With two consecutive losses, Pakistan currently holds the fifth position on the points table with four points. The Men in Green will next play against Afghanistan on the 23rd of October in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
