MS Dhoni led the Chennai Super Kings to a record fifth title when CSK beat the Gujarat Titans in the finals of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. The CSK captain chose a different role in the tournament, which saw him come out to bat with a few overs left and hit sixes.
Everything went in Dhoni and CSK’s favor, and they ended up as winners. Meanwhile, the support MSD got from the fans was unbelievable. Fans came in huge numbers to support him, not only in Chennai but wherever he went to play the games.
There were some reports that Dhoni would be retiring from the IPL after the 16th edition. But after winning the championship, the CSK captain confirmed that he would be back for the next season with the team and would be leading the side.
But one thing that concerned every fan was Dhoni’s knee injury. The 42-year-old was seen wearing a knee cap even after winning the IPL final. He underwent the surgery last week in Mumbai as well. His wife, Sakshi Dhoni, who was attending an event in Chennai for the screening of the movie “LGM,” updated about her husband’s injury.
Notably, the movie is produced by Dhoni and Sakshi. During the event, when asked about Dhoni’s injury by some fans, Sakshi gave a thumbsup and said, “He is very good, he is recovering, he is in rehab.”
After winning the IPL, MSD underwent keyhole surgery. Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is a renowned sports orthopaedic surgeon, performed that surgery. Some other sports celebrities, like Neeraj Chopra and Rishabh Pant, had also consulted Pardiwala for their respective injuries.
Dhoni’s injury did have an effect on him during the IPL. That was one of the reasons that he batted way down the order. But all in all, it ended well for the Yellow Army, and they equaled the Mumbai Indians with the most IPL titles.
