Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh faced a moment of redemption during the New Year’s Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) after initially gifting Pakistan captain Shan Masood a reprieve. In the 26th over, Marsh, delivering the Kookaburra, should have dismissed Masood on 32, but a no-ball revealed by replays denied the wicket.

Had it not been for Marsh’s overstepping, Pakistan would have been at 5-87. Despite the setback, Marsh redeemed himself four overs later, dismissing Masood for 35 in a nearly identical fashion.

This time, the edge from the left-hander was caught by Steve Smith at second slip, and Marsh celebrated, glancing back at the umpire with a touch of humor after ensuring his foot was behind the popping crease.

As Masood walked off with Pakistan in a challenging position at 5-96, Marsh, known for his jovial personality, offered umpire Richard Illingworth a celebratory high-five, which was declined.

The iconic venue echoed with sarcastic cheers when replays confirmed Marsh’s valid delivery, marking a moment of redemption for the Australian all-rounder.

Meanwhile, Pakistan also managed to redeem themselves after losing the 5th wicket for 96 runs as Agha Salman and Mohammad Rizwan added a 94 runs partnership for the 6th wicket before Pat Cummins got the latter out for 88 runs, missing a well deserved century. As of writing this, Pakistan have scored 197 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 47 overs.
