Not only did Kohli break Tendulkar’s longstanding record for the most ODI hundreds, but he also eclipsed Tendulkar’s single World Cup run record, surpassing the 673 runs achieved in the 2003 World Cup. The 35-year-old batting maestro achieved his 50th century in the semifinal clash against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, facing 106 balls, including eight fours and a six.

As Kohli reached the coveted century, he marked the moment with a celebratory gesture, raising his arms, sinking to his knees, and bowing to the fans. The significance of achieving this feat on Tendulkar’s home ground, with the cricket legend present at the Wankhede Stadium, added an extra layer of symbolism to Kohli’s accomplishment.
