West Indies‘ veteran fast bowler Fidel Edwards recalled his first impression of current Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma when he first saw him in 2009. Sharma was the vice-captain of the Deccan Chargers team then. Edwards was his teammate and both lifted the IPL trophy under Adam Gilchrist’s captaincy.

In a recent interview with Swagcricket.com, Fidel Edwards spoke at length about a range of topics. When asked about his only IPL season that came in 2009, Edwards said he did not remember much about that competition, but he named his debut spell as his most memorable IPL moment.

“(Laughs) That was so long ago but it would have to be my debut even though I didn’t take any wickets in that game but I think I bowl like 4 overs for 5 runs or something,” Edwards replied.

Edwards is 40 years old now, but he still aims to play in the upcoming IPL season. He is the second oldest player to have made it to the final list of the mega auction. His name will go under the hammer this weekend, and Edwards wishes to be a part of the Mumbai Indians team.

Up to this day he’s still one of my favorite Indian players: Fidel Edwards on Rohit Sharma

Commenting on his first impression of Rohit Sharma when he saw him playing for the Deccan Chargers team in the year 2009, Fidel Edwards said:

“When I first saw Rohit Sharma I was like wow the guy can bat and he’s going to be a great player an up to this day he’s still one of my favorite Indian players.”

It will be interesting to see if Sharma and Edwards reunite at the Mumbai Indians camp in IPL 2022. Edwards still bowls at express pace and can trouble even the best batters in the world. He can sign off on a high with a successful stint at MI.
