The Indian cricket team is currently playing an ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the West Indies cricket team. The team management gave Deepak Hooda a chance to showcase his talent in the first match. Hooda replaced Venkatesh Iyer in the team, who played in the ODI series against South Africa.

Iyer performed brilliantly in the IPL, but in international cricket, he is yet to prove himself. The selectors decided against giving him another chance in 50-over cricket. They have kept him in the T20I squad for the West Indies series but not in the squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series.

In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, Venkatesh Iyer broke silence over his snub from the ODI team and said that it is basic human nature to question the non-selection. But at the same time, he added that his focus is on the process because selection is not in his hand.

“Staying in the process and getting the best out if it, is what I look to do and not think about selection. And sometimes, it’s human nature to think of things like, ‘Why I haven’t been picked?’, but at the end of the day, you can’t be sitting there and thinking what has happened,” said Venkatesh.

Venkatesh Iyer has played two ODIs and three T20Is for India so far

Iyer made his international debut against the New Zealand cricket team in a home T20I series last year. He played three matches in that series, scoring 36 runs at a strike rate of 128.57. With the ball, he scalped one wicket at an economy rate of four runs per over.

Earlier this year, the Madhya Pradesh-based all-rounder started his ODI career against South Africa. He played two matches, amassing 24 runs at a strike rate of 60. He bowled five overs in the series, where he returned with figures of 0/28.
